SRINAGAR: The District Administration of Ganderbal has announced the conduct of a Civil Defence Air Raid Mock Drill along with a district-wide blackout exercise on April 23 as part of its emergency preparedness initiative.
According to an official notice issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate, the air raid mock drill will take place at 2:30 PM at Government Degree College Ganderbal. This will be followed by a blackout exercise across the district from 8:00 PM to 8:10 PM.
The administration stated that the exercise aims to enhance public awareness, improve response coordination, and strengthen safety measures during emergency situations. Authorities have clarified that the drill is purely a preparedness activity and not an actual emergency.
Residents have been urged to remain calm during the mock drill and strictly follow instructions issued by Civil Defence personnel, police, and volunteers. The public has also been advised against spreading rumours or misinformation and to avoid obstructing emergency services.
During the blackout exercise, citizens are required to switch off all lights, including backup power sources such as inverters and generators, and ensure that no light escapes from homes or buildings. People have been instructed to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary movement, and refrain from using mobile flashlights or vehicle headlights unless absolutely necessary.
The administration emphasized that public cooperation is crucial for the success of the exercise. Parents have been asked to guide children and maintain calm, while shopkeepers, institutions, and commercial establishments have been directed to strictly comply with blackout instructions.
