SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday attached multiple immovable properties belonging to a Jaish-e-Mohammed operative in connection with the 2017 fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in Jammu and Kashmir in which five personnel were killed.

The action was carried out under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, following orders issued by a special NIA court in Jammu, officials said.

The attached assets, comprising land and residential structures, are located in the Lethpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The agency identified the properties as belonging to Fayaz Ahmad Magray, an accused in the case, and described them as proceeds of terrorism.

Magray, a resident of Lethpora, was arrested in February 2019 and later chargesheeted under provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The trial in the case is currently underway.

According to the NIA, the attack took place on December 30, 2017, when three heavily armed terrorists stormed the CRPF camp at Lethpora and opened fire, killing five personnel and injuring three others. All three attackers were subsequently killed in retaliatory action by security forces.

The investigation has alleged that Magray, an overground worker of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit, facilitated the attack by participating in planning meetings and conducting reconnaissance of the target along with other operatives.

The agency further stated that he assisted in arranging weapons and helped one of the attackers move away from the area after reconnaissance activities.

Two other accused linked to the case, Noor Mohammad Tantray and Mudasir Ahmad Khan, were killed earlier in separate encounters with security forces.

Officials said the attachment of properties forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terror networks and dismantle their financial and logistical support structures in Jammu and Kashmir.
