Karnah: A 30-year-old driver lost his life in a road accident near Semari in Karnah of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Zameer Ahmad Dar, son of Gayas-u-Din Dar, a resident of Upper Neechiyan, Tangdhar. He, as per officials, was driving a Maruti Suzuki vehicle bearing registration number JK04A-9283 at the time of the incident.
“The vehicle was en route from Teetwal towards Seemari when it allegedly skidded off the road near Semari Army Post and plunged down a slope,” said an official.
A police team, along with local residents, rushed to the scene and immediately launched a rescue operation. The injured driver was shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Karnah for medical treatment, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the legal heirs for last rites.”
Police have in the meantime taken cognizance of the incident and further proceedings are underway.
