MVD Kishtwar Suspends RCs, Permits of 246 Traffic Violators | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kishtwar, under the supervision of Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Tasleem Wani, has ordered a major enforcement action against habitual traffic offenders, suspending Registration Certificates (RCs) and Route Permits of 246 vehicles across the district with immediate effect.

Of the total, 203 vehicles have had their RCs suspended, while Route Permits of 43 commercial vehicles have been suspended. In addition, 66 vehicles have been blacklisted. The action covers 193 non-commercial/private vehicles, including 171 two-wheelers and 22 light motor vehicles, along with 53 commercial vehicles.

According to officials, the enforcement drive was initiated after receiving data on repeat offenders from the office of the Transport Commissioner and Traffic Police authorities. All identified violators had been booked more than five times for offences under the Motor Vehicles Act, in line with guidelines of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

The violations include non-wearing of helmets, failure to use seat belts, overloading, over-speeding, drunken driving, use of mobile phones while driving, and other repeated serious traffic breaches.

As per Order No. ARTO/KTR/2026-27/235-41 dated April 17, 2026, the suspensions will remain in force for a period of three months. During this period, the vehicles are not permitted to ply on roads, and owners have been directed to deposit their original RCs and Route Permits with the ARTO office, Kishtwar.

The department has also directed District Police and Traffic Police authorities to strictly enforce the order, including seizure of vehicles found operating in violation of the suspension.

The ARTO has urged motorists and transport operators to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, warning that continued violations will invite further stringent legal action.
