SRINAGAR: A fire broke out in the Alamgari Bazar area of Srinagar on Thursday morning, damaging three residential structures, officials said.

Fire and Emergency Services said the State Fire Control Room in Batamaloo received a call about the incident, after which fire tenders from Nowshera, Safakadal, Rainawari, Syed Hameed Pora and headquarters were sent to the spot.

On arrival, fire personnel found all three structures on fire and started firefighting operations. The fire was later brought under control, and cooling measures were taken to prevent further spread.

Deputy Director FES Command Srinagar, Aqib Hussain Mir, said the incident involved three buildings—a three-storey, a double-storey and a single-storey structure. All were of pucca construction with GCI sheet roofing.

He said the roofing, including attic portions of all structures, and the first and second floors of the three-storey building, along with the first floor of the double-storey structure, were damaged. Household items, furnishings and fixed furniture were also affected. Other portions of the buildings were impacted by heat, smoke and water.

Officials said an LPG cylinder inside the premises burst during the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. No casualties or injuries were reported. Further investigation is underway.
