SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani on Tuesday dismissed fears of any supply disruption, asserting that there is no shortage of LPG or fuel in the union territory and blaming the prevailing crisis on hoarding and panic buying by consumers.
The administration has cracked down on black marketers and hoarders, the Advisor said.
“We still say that we have no shortage of gas. We have no shortage of fuel. But we have a habit of hoarding,” Wani said.
The National Conference leader pointed to irrational consumer behaviour as the root cause, noting that even gas cards with no refill taken for the last 10 months were standing in line.
“This is our nature. We want to store things. If people stop doing this, I don’t think there is a shortage anywhere,” he added.
However, Advisor Wani flagged global geopolitical tensions as a potential threat, warning that the economy and fuel supplies were in danger.
“People go to bed worried every evening over fears of a nuclear war,” he said. (KNS)
