SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday directed police authorities to prepare lists of key drug peddlers at every police station and initiate decisive action to dismantle narcotics networks within 30 days.

Speaking at a public event in Kathua after launching the 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’, the Lieutenant Governor called for a stringent crackdown on drug traffickers while emphasizing a humane approach towards individuals struggling with addiction.

He stated that strict measures would be taken against those involved in drug trade, including cancellation of passports, driving licences, Aadhaar cards, and arms licences.

Sinha instructed the police to implement a focused and time-bound strategy to eliminate drug networks, adding that a newly notified Standard Operating Procedure would be enforced rigorously to curb smuggling activities.

He further noted that under the NDPS Act, properties of those involved in drug trafficking would be attached, bank accounts frozen, and comprehensive financial investigations conducted.

Highlighting the need for collective action, the Lieutenant Governor said that achieving a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir requires active participation from all sections of society, urging citizens to support the anti-drug campaign.

He also outlined that the initiative would follow a structured 100-day roadmap focusing on awareness, community engagement, and sustainable long-term efforts.

Emphasizing rehabilitation, Sinha said individuals affected by addiction should be treated with compassion and provided adequate support systems for recovery.

He also appealed to women’s self-help groups to form vigilance teams to monitor and report drug-related activities in their respective areas.

The Lieutenant Governor also led a padyatra in Kathua, joined by a large number of citizens, officials, students, and civil society members, and administered an anti-drug pledge reaffirming the collective resolve to eliminate the menace.
