CM Omar Abdullah Hails SKUAST-K Breakthrough in Morel Mushroom Research | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has congratulated the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) for achieving a significant scientific breakthrough in the research and advancement of Morel (Gucchi) mushrooms.

The Chief Minister, who also serves as the Pro-Chancellor of the university, lauded the achievement, stating that it reflects SKUAST-K’s commitment to scientific excellence and the sustainable use of high-value natural resources.

He said the breakthrough holds strong potential for improving livelihoods, particularly in mountainous and rural regions where Morel mushrooms form an important part of both the local economy and cultural heritage. He added that the development could open new avenues for sustainable cultivation, value addition, and enhanced income generation.

Omar Abdullah also appreciated the efforts of the scientists involved in the research and extended his best wishes to the university fraternity, expressing hope that SKUAST-K will continue to contribute to agricultural innovation and rural development in the future.
