
Srinagar, Apr 2: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday said that there was currently no proposal under consideration for the construction of a sports stadium in Sonawari constituency.
Replying to a question by MLA Hilal Akbar Lone, during the ongoing Assembly Session, the Youth Services and Sports Department said that as of now, there was no consideration in the construction of the Sonawari Constituency.
The government, however, said that steps are being taken to ensure equitable development of sports infrastructure across the region, and the demand for a stadium in Sonawari would be examined in due course, subject to availability of funds, feasibility, and technical reports.
“The demand shall be examined in due course of time subject to availability of funds, feasibility and technical report therein, whenever a proposal is received by the competent authority,” reads the reply.
The reply further stated that several playfields have already been developed in Sonawari to promote sports activities and youth engagement. These include facilities at Sadunara, Madwan, Inderkote, Ganastan, and Hakabara.
Additionally, the department has taken up the upgradation of the playfield at Sadunara by developing a volleyball court, basketball court proposed under the Capex Budget 2025-26 at an estimated cost of Rs 100 lakh and is currently under the tendering process.
