SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that Rs 109.22 crore has been allocated for road construction projects across South Kashmir constituencies during the 2025-26 financial year. He added that macadamization of 268.67 km of roads was completed in the region during this period.

Replying to a question raised by MLA Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Mir, the Deputy Chief Minister said the work was executed under multiple sectors, including Cities and Towns, Potholes, UT Road Sector, NABARD, CRIF, and District Capex..

He further stated that, based on MLA Rajpora’s recommendation, a project proposal for widening and upgrading the 14 km Lassipora–Litter–Sangam road, estimated at Rs 98.71 crore, has been received and is under departmental consideration.

Choudhary added that the DPR for a 15 km Kandipathri–Shidak Shrine road project has been prepared with an estimated cost of Rs 48.26 crore. Since a major part of the alignment passes through forest area, mandatory forest clearance will be required before execution.

He emphasized that the existing carriageway of 5.5 meters on Lassipora–Litter–Sangam road is insufficient to handle heavy traffic, particularly due to the nearby Industrial Growth Centre (IGC), Lassipora, making the widening project crucial.

The Deputy Chief Minister concluded that all proposals are under departmental review to assess feasibility and resource availability before implementation.
