India’s railway sector is witnessing unprecedented growth, says Ashwini Vaishnaw in Lok Sabha. Backed by record budget allocations under Narendra Modi, the railways have achieved major milestones. Over 25,000 trains now run daily, while 76,352 special trains were operated in the last financial year. Freight movement touched a record 1670 million tonnes, highlighting strong economic momentum. Safety has also improved significantly, with the lowest number of consequential accidents – just 16 – in 50 years. Additionally, 1914 locomotives were manufactured, marking a major boost to domestic production. These developments underline how railway investments are benefiting the poor and middle class while strengthening India’s infrastructure and growth story.
