SRINAGAR: The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has generated around Rs 62 lakh in revenue during March, the final month of the financial year 2025–26, through an extensive campaign against ticketless and irregular travel.

PM Narendra Modi Launches First Electric Train in Jammu and Kashmir on February 20, 2024.

Officials said nearly 11,000 passengers were apprehended during large-scale ticket checking operations conducted across the division for travelling without valid tickets or violating railway rules. The drive was aimed at improving compliance, ensuring discipline, and enhancing revenue collection.

The campaign was carried out under the “Zero Tolerance” initiative, guided by senior railway official Uchit Singhal. Intensive checks were conducted at major stations including Jammu, Katra, Srinagar, Pathankot Cantt, and Badgam, focusing on entry and exit points.

Special arrangements were also made during the Navratri period, when passenger rush increased significantly. Despite heavy traffic, ticket checking teams maintained strict vigilance to identify unauthorized travellers while ensuring smooth movement of genuine passengers.

Officials said March remains a challenging month due to high travel demand, but coordinated efforts by ticket checking staff helped ensure effective enforcement. The division credited the revenue boost to sustained monitoring and strict action against violators.

Railway authorities have urged passengers to travel with valid tickets and warned that ticketless travel is punishable under the Railways Act, 1989. They also encouraged the use of digital and automated ticketing platforms such as the UTS mobile app, ATVMs, and RailOne app for convenience.
