SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have seized six vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals during enforcement drives conducted in the jurisdictions of Police Stations Safapora, Lar and Gund.

Police said the vehicles were found operating without valid authorisation and in violation of prescribed mining norms. Acting on the violations, police teams intercepted and seized the vehicles on the spot.

The matter was subsequently taken up with the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed fines on the offenders under relevant legal provisions.

Police reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal mining activities in the district and safeguarding natural resources. Authorities said strict action will continue against individuals and groups involved in unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals.

The public has also been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in reporting such violations to ensure protection of the region’s natural resources.
