March 27, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed chaos on Friday as NC, PDP and Congress MLAs displayed posters of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and raised slogans, while BJP members staged counter protests over local issues, disrupting proceedings.

After the Assembly resumed, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he believed the House was divided on the issue and cautioned that speaking without consensus could lead to further confrontation.

However, Later he described the situation involving Iran as an unjust conflict and expressed concern over the loss of lives, including civilians and children. He also condemned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the member of his family. He said the reasons behind the conflict were still unclear and questioned the changing narratives.

Omar Abdullah said that while some members believe such matters do not directly concern the House, they have, in reality, affected people locally, including students abroad and residents facing fuel-related issues.

He added that while the Assembly cannot stop a war, it can urge the Central government to use its diplomatic relations with Iran, Israel and the United States to help reduce tensions.

He also said that the Prime Minister should use both official and personal diplomatic relations with the concerned countries to help end the conflict and promote peace.
