Kashmiri Student Who Died in Punjab Laid to Rest in Kupwara  | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: The body of a Kashmiri student who died in Punjab was brought back to his native village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and laid to rest, following coordinated efforts by authorities to ensure the timely and dignified return of his mortal remains.

The deceased, identified as Burhan Bashir, was a student of Chandigarh University. He was taken to a hospital in Sector 69, Mohali, where doctors declared him dead, according to details shared by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association.

Following the incident, the family sought assistance to facilitate the return of the body to Kashmir. Authorities in Punjab, including officials from the Chief Minister’s Office, intervened to expedite the process.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, along with senior officials such as Chief Secretary KAP Sinha and Media Advisor Baltej Pannu, were approached for assistance. Directions were subsequently issued to local administration, including the Deputy Commissioner and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Mohali, to ensure that all necessary arrangements were made without delay.

Despite late hours and ongoing Eid engagements, the post-mortem examination was conducted during the night to avoid any delay in repatriation. Local officials, including those from Kharar subdivision, coordinated with police and administrative teams to complete formalities and assist the family.

The mortal remains were later transported to Kashmir by ambulance, ensuring a respectful journey back home.

Funeral prayers were held at his native village in Handwara, where he was laid to rest in the presence of family members, relatives and local residents.

Officials and members of the association expressed condolences to the bereaved family, stating that efforts were made to provide support and ensure dignity in the handling and transportation of the mortal remains during a difficult time.
