New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan on Thursday strongly condemned the firing incident near Royal Park in Greater Kailash, Jammu, where a gunman opened fire during a wedding function attended by Farooq Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha in a belligerent tone, Ramzan described the incident as shocking and unacceptable, saying such brazen acts of violence cannot be tolerated in a democratic society.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night when a man allegedly opened fire at a marriage function at the Royal Park venue in Jammu’s Greater Kailash area. The accused was overpowered and arrested by security personnel on the spot, while Farooq Abdullah escaped unhurt and Surinder Choudhary sustained minor injuries.
Expressing relief that Abdullah was safe, Ramzan prayed for the speedy recovery of the deputy chief minister. He urged authorities to conduct a swift, thorough and transparent investigation to uncover the motives behind the attack and ensure the strongest possible action against those responsible.
The MP also demanded the upgradation of three time Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah’s security cover, stating that the veteran leader has played a pivotal role in bringing alienated sections of people back into the democratic mainstream at the peak of turmoil in Kashmir.
