International Women’s Day celebrated in Budgam

Srinagar, Mar 8: International Women’s Day 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm at DC Office Budgam, under the inspiring theme “Give to Gain.”

The programme was organized by the District Administration Budgam in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office Budgam and the District Hub for Women Empowerment (DHEW) Budgam, highlighting the collective commitment towards promoting gender equality and women empowerment.

The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan and saw the participation of senior district officials, stakeholders, and women from various sectors.

While addressing the gathering, the DC emphasized that empowering women through education, awareness, and economic opportunities is essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable development. He reiterated the district administration’s commitment to strengthening initiatives that support the empowerment and welfare of women across the district. ACR Budgam highlighted the importance of encouraging women to actively participate in social, economic, and leadership roles, adding that equal opportunities for women are vital for the progress of society.

District Social Welfare Officer Budgam informed the participants about the various schemes and initiatives being implemented under Mission Shakti, aimed at providing counselling services, legal aid, awareness programmes, and institutional support to women across the district.

Earlier, District Mission Coordinator, District Hub for Women Empowerment Budgam welcomed the participants and highlighted the role of the Sankalp Hub in spreading awareness and facilitating access to government schemes and services for women. The programme served as an important platform to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women while reaffirming the collective commitment of the administration towards building a more inclusive, equitable, and empowering environment for women. Meanwhile, the DC also presided over an International Women’s Day programme organised by the Agriculture Department budgam in conference hall of DC office complex, wherein the achievements and success stories of women farmers of the district were highlighted.

The DC appreciated the role of women farmers in strengthening the agricultural sector and encouraged them to continue adopting innovative practices and government-supported initiatives to enhance productivity and livelihoods.

The events concluded with a renewed pledge to continue strengthening initiatives that promote the empowerment, dignity, and welfare of women across Budgam district.
