8 inmates, 4 jail staff injured in clash inside Rajouri district jail

Rajouri, Mar 8: At least eight inmates of the District Jail Rajouri and four security personnel sustained injuries after a clash broke out inside the high-security jail late Saturday evening over a minor issue.

The High Security District Jail Rajouri is located in Dhangri village, nearly ten kilometres from the district headquarters.

According to reports, the incident occurred after an altercation broke out between two groups of inmates, reportedly belonging to different residential areas.

The dispute soon escalated into a violent clash that continued for a considerable period and the situation was eventually brought under control after reinforcement teams from Rajouri Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were rushed to the jail premises.

Senior officers from the police administration including DIG Rajouri Poonch range, SSP Rajouri alongwith an executive magistrate from the civil administration, also reached the spot to monitor the situation and ensure restoration of order inside the jail.

As per initial reports, four jail and security personnel were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Associated Hospital Rajouri on Saturday night for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, eight inmates have also been taken to the same hospital for medical examination and diagnosis on Sunday morning.

Officials said that the situation inside the jail is presently under control, though security arrangements have been further strengthened as a precautionary measure.

Sources said that the injured inmates admitted to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri are being examined by a team of doctors and the condition of all the injured persons is stated to be stable and out of danger.

Police said to have taken up cognizance into the matter in police station Rajouri and investigation has been set into motion.
