Jammu, Mar 4: Holi – the festival of colours – was celebrated with vibrant hues of vitality, splendour, joy and togetherness to mark the triumph of positivity and good over evil across the Jammu region on Wednesday.

Like other parts of the region, festive verve pervaded across Jammu city, where the members of Hindu and Sikh communities immersed themselves in colourful celebrations.

The members of other communities too joined the festivities in a splendid show of camaraderie and communal harmony.

People, irrespective of age and gender, applied Gulal to each other, splashed coloured water and exchanged sweets. Herbal colours dominated the market buzz.

At many places, special Holi events and Holi Milan parties were arranged amid music beats, adding to the festivities. Colour-filled balloons, colour cylinders or colour spray bottles were the special attraction for the children. The city markets remained abuzz with the activities of revellers throughout the day.

The personnel of the Army, Border Security Forces, and Central Para Military Forces, including those deployed in forward areas, also celebrated the festival with equal zest.

The civil and police administration had made elaborate arrangements for the celebration of the festival with safety. Advisories were put in place to prevent any untoward incident, which could mar festive spirits.

Earlier on March 3, on the eve of the festival, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic City, Jammu, Amit Bhasin, through a special traffic advisory, had warned against drunk driving, over-speeding and stunt biking, with the assertion that strict action would be taken against the violation of traffic rules.

“Holi is a festival of colours and spreads brotherhood, harmony and happiness besides symbolising the victory of good over evil. Keeping in view the traffic scenario, Traffic Police Jammu advises the general public, especially the motorists, against wrong parking and violation of traffic norms,” SSP had stated.

“All the motorists are hereby warned that strict action will be taken against drunk driving, over-speeding, stunt biking, reckless-dangerous driving or driving without crash helmets. Special focus will be given on stunt biking. Motorists are asked not to perform stunt biking, which endangers their life as well as the lives of other people,” Bhasin had cautioned.

Holi was celebrated in Kathua, Samba, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts as well with festive verve.
