
Rajouri, Mar 3: Traffic movement on the Jammu–Rajouri–Poonch highway was disrupted for some time after a truck loaded with bricks overturned and caught fire at Lamberi in Nowshera subdivision during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, officials said.
According to officials, the truck was on its way to Rajouri from Jammu when the driver reportedly lost control over the vehicle near Lamberi.
The heavily-loaded vehicle overturned in the middle of the highway and soon after caught fire, triggering panic among commuters.
Eyewitnesses said flames quickly engulfed the ill-fated truck, resulting in damage to the vehicle and its load.
The driver, however, managed to come out of the vehicle in time and escaped unhurt.
Soon after the incident, local residents and police rushed to the spot while Fire and emergency services were informed, and efforts were launched to douse the blaze.
Traffic on the busy highway remained affected for a considerable period as vehicles were halted on both sides until the wreckage was cleared from the road.
Authorities later restored movement after necessary clearance operations were completed.
