Srinagar, Mar 1: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have imposed restrictions on the movement of people across several parts of the Valley in view of the ongoing protests, officials said on Monday.

The decision was taken after a high-level review of the prevailing law and order situation by senior civil and police authorities.

According to officials, no public assembly or gathering will be permitted, and strict curbs have been placed on movement in sensitive areas to prevent any escalation.

A senior Police official said that measures were precautionary and aimed at maintaining peace and preventing untoward incidents. ìAfter reviewing the situation, it has been decided that restrictions on movement will remain in force tomorrow. No assembly will be allowed. The step has been taken purely as a preventive measure,î the official said.

Security forces have been deployed in strength in vulnerable locations, with additional personnel stationed at key intersections and public squares.

Barricades have been erected in several areas to regulate movement, while patrolling has been intensified.

The restrictions come in the wake of widespread protests reported from parts of the Valley, including Srinagar and districts such as Budgam district and Bandipora district.

Authorities said they are closely monitoring developments and will review the situation on a day-to-day basis.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with the administration and avoid circulating rumours or unverified information.

Officials reiterated that any violation of the prohibitory orders would invite legal action under relevant laws.
