SRINAGAR: The Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has accepted a private member’s resolution introduced by PDP MLA Waheed-Ur-Rehman Parra, condemning hate crimes against minorities and urging strict law enforcement.
The Pulwama legislator moved the resolution in response to a rise in reported attacks and harassment of Kashmiri students and traders across different parts of India.
An official statement from the Assembly Secretariat confirmed that the resolution has been admitted under Rule 179 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the J-K Legislative Assembly.
The resolution “strongly condemns all forms of hate crimes against minorities” and urges both the Government of India and state governments to take prompt and effective action to prevent, investigate, and prosecute such offences, ensuring strict application of the law.
Recent reports of intimidation and alleged attacks on Kashmiri students and traders have attracted political concern, prompting calls for enhanced safeguards and accountability measures.
