SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday directed officials to ensure uninterrupted public services across Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramadan, emphasising coordinated action on utilities, sanitation, healthcare, security and essential supplies.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister instructed departments to take proactive measures to facilitate the public and ensure smooth service delivery throughout the month. He ordered intensified sanitation drives, particularly around mosques, shrines and other major congregation points, with increased frequency of waste collection.
Officials were directed to ensure reliable power and water supply, availability of essential commodities, market regulation, healthcare preparedness and strengthened security arrangements. The Chief Minister stressed uninterrupted electricity during Sehri and Iftar hours, asking the Power Development Department to plan curtailments, if unavoidable, and designate nodal officers to monitor supply.
Adequate drinking water arrangements were also reviewed, with instructions issued to the Jal Shakti Department to ensure seamless supply and deploy tankers in water-stressed areas ahead of Iftar.
The administration was directed to maintain sufficient stocks of essential commodities, including rice, atta, sugar, LPG and perishables, while enforcing strict market checks to prevent hoarding, black marketing and profiteering. Healthcare services will remain on high alert, with emergency medical facilities and ambulances deployed at major congregation sites. The Chief Minister also ordered adequate staffing of hospitals during Iftar hours.
Security measures will include round-the-clock patrolling, anti-sabotage checks and enhanced traffic management around major religious sites. Fire services and public transport operations will be strengthened to manage increased movement during Ramadan.
The meeting was attended by Nasir Aslam Wani, senior administrative officials, divisional commissioners, police officers and departmental heads, while deputy commissioners and district officers joined via video conferencing.
The Chief Minister reiterated that all departments must work in close coordination to ensure a peaceful and well-managed Ramadan across the Union Territory.
