ACB Arrests ASI in Srinagar Suburbs for Rs 8,000 Bribe

Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday apprehended Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, Assistant Sub-Inspector at Police Station Bemina, Srinagar, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 from a complainant.

According to an ACB spokesperson, the complainant alleged that Khan, despite the case being already challaned in court, sought illegal gratification and threatened harassment if the demand was not met.

Following receipt of the written complaint, the ACB conducted a preliminary verification that substantiated the allegations. FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was initiated.

A trap team was deployed, which caught Khan red-handed while taking the bribe. The money was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, and the accused was taken into custody.

The ACB confirmed that further investigation in the case is ongoing.
