SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government told the Legislative Assembly that 5,457 landowners have had land taken for the construction of water reservoirs, filtration plants and allied works across the Union territory, but compensation has been paid to only 2,397 of them, while 3,060 cases remain pending, the Jal Shakti Department said in a written reply.

The departmental data tabled in response to an unstarred question by Javid Hassan Baig, gives a district-wise position. It records a total of 5,457 affected landowners across the UT. Compensation has been disbursed in 2,397 cases, while 3,060 owners have not received payment, the documents show, meaning more than half of affected landowners are yet to be compensated.

In Kashmir, land was taken from 1,971 persons; of these, 895 have received compensation, and 1,076 remain unpaid.

The district-wise data shows that in Ganderbal district, land belonging to 163 persons was utilised for the construction of water reservoirs, filtration plants and allied works. Compensation was provided to 104 landowners, while 59 landowners have not been paid compensation.

In the Srinagar district, the land of 12 persons was utilised. No compensation has been provided, and all 12 landowners are yet to receive compensation.

In Budgam district, land of 255 persons was utilised. Compensation has been provided to 122 landowners, while 133 landowners have not received compensation.

In Anantnag district, land belonging to 328 persons was utilised. Compensation has been paid to 201 landowners, while 127 landowners are yet to be compensated.

In Kulgam district, land of 340 persons was utilised. Of these, 186 landowners have received compensation, while 154 have not been paid.

In Shopian district, land belonging to 66 persons was utilised. Compensation has been provided to 34 landowners, while 32 remain unpaid.

In Pulwama district, land of 168 persons was utilised. Compensation has been paid to 26 landowners, while 142 landowners have not received compensation.

In Bandipora district, land belonging to 65 persons was utilised. Compensation has been provided to 5 landowners, while 60 landowners are yet to receive compensation.

In Kupwara district, land of 333 persons was utilised. Compensation has been paid to 142 landowners, while 191 remain unpaid.

In Baramulla district, land belonging to 241 persons was utilised. Compensation has been provided to 75 landowners, while 166 landowners have not received compensation.

In Kathua district, land of 172 persons was utilised. Compensation has been paid to 76 landowners, while 96 landowners remain unpaid.

In Samba district, land belonging to 132 persons was utilised. Compensation has been provided to 83 landowners, while 49 landowners have not been compensated.

In Jammu district, land of 433 persons was utilised. Compensation has been paid to 194 landowners, while 239 landowners are yet to receive compensation.

In Reasi district, land belonging to 578 persons was utilised. Compensation has been provided to 214 landowners, while 364 landowners have not been paid.

In Udhampur district, land of 314 persons was utilised. Compensation has been paid to 128 landowners, while 186 landowners remain unpaid.

In Doda district, land belonging to 194 persons was utilised. No compensation has been provided, and all 194 landowners remain unpaid.

In Ramban district, land of 438 persons was utilised. Compensation has been paid to 319 landowners, while 119 landowners have not received compensation.

In Kishtwar district, land belonging to 159 persons was utilised. Compensation has been provided to 92 landowners, while 67 landowners remain unpaid.

In Rajouri district, land of 805 persons was utilised. Compensation has been paid to 396 landowners, while 409 landowners have not been compensated.

In Poonch district, land belonging to 261 persons was utilised. No compensation has been provided, and all 261 landowners remain unpaid.

Overall, in Kashmir division, land belonging to 1,971 persons was utilised, of which 895 landowners have received compensation and 1,076 remain unpaid. In Jammu division, land of 3,486 persons was utilised, of whom 1,502 landowners have been compensated and 1,984 remain unpaid.
