Srinagar: The Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Pampore, has convicted twelve persons in a gambling case and sentenced them to one month of simple imprisonment.

The conviction relates to a case registered at Police Station Pampore under the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Gambling Act. During the proceedings, the accused admitted their involvement in the offence.

In its observations, the court underscored that gambling poses a serious threat to social order and public discipline. It noted that treating such offences lightly would undermine the purpose of the law and could encourage similar violations.

The court said that the sentence was aimed not only at penalising the offenders but also at sending a clear message of deterrence, reaffirming that activities affecting societal stability and family security would invite strict legal action.

The court further ordered that the stake money recovered in the case be deposited in the government treasury as per legal procedure.
