Rajouri, Jan 30: Residents of Budhal township in Rajouri district staged a midnight protest on Thursday night, expressing anger over a week-long electricity outage following heavy snowfall that damaged power infrastructure in the area.
According to locals, power supply in the area snapped on the night of January 22 following heavy snowfall that damaged key electricity infrastructure.
Locals said despite the passage of several days, the Power Development Department (PDD) failed to restore supply in all the areas leaving the human habitations in darkness.
Residents said the impact of the prolonged power outage on daily life is beyond words, with normal activities coming to a complete standstill.
The absence of electricity has severely affected households, students, patients, and essential services, particularly amid harsh winter conditions.
Angered by the inaction of the authorities, local youth took to the streets late at night and staged a protest, raising slogans against the Power Development Department.
The protesters demanded immediate restoration of power supply and urged the administration to take swift measures to address the issue.
The protesters warned that if electricity is not restored at the earliest, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days.
