Police book violators for flouting tenant verification norms in Reasi

Ramban, Jan 20: Police in Reasi district have intensified enforcement against violations of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) orders, booking several individuals for non-compliance with tenant verification norms and other legal requirements, officials said on Tuesday.

During a verification drive at Daba Morh, police from Police Post Banganga found tenants residing without mandatory verification at a shed belonging to Chain Singh, son of Deepti, a resident of Jadsarkote, Udhampur. Consequently, FIR No. 30/2026 under Section 223(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered.

In another action along the SMVD Track, an unauthorised pony operator, Shabir Khan, son of Nasib Ali and resident of Jandial, Jammu, was found operating without a valid registration card.

He has been booked under FIR No. 28/2026 under Section 223(a) BNS.

Similarly, at Kakryal, Nazir Ahmed, son of Din Mohammad and resident of Kun Kanyala Panthal, Katra, was found keeping tenants Sajad Ahmed Dar and his wife Daisy Jaan without proper verification. This led to the registration of FIR No. 29/2026 under Section 223 BNS.

Additionally, Onkar Singh, son of Krishan Singh and resident of Chamba Chandwa, Katra, was apprehended under Section 355 BNS and subsequently penalised by the Hon’ble Court.

The operation was conducted by Incharge Police Post Banganga PSI Rahul Jamwal, Incharge Police Post Kakryal PSI Akhilesh Khajuria, and SHO Police Station Katra Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey and SP Katra Vipan Chandran.

Meanwhile, SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh reiterated that District Police Reasi urges all landlords, pony operators, and service providers to strictly adhere to tenant verification norms and legal requirements. He warned that any violation will be dealt with firmly as per law.
