Srinagar: Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Monday directed district police heads to step up surveillance of anti national elements and strengthen area domination measures ahead of Republic Day 2026 celebrations across the Union Territory.

The directions were issued during a general security review meeting held at the Police Control Room Kashmir. The meeting focused on assessing preparedness and finalising security arrangements for Republic Day functions at designated venues across the Valley.

At the outset, officers briefed the DGP on intelligence assessments, existing security measures, and operational plans. The briefings covered steps to secure public spaces, protect vital installations, and ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations.

The DGP assigned clear responsibilities to field officers and stressed strict and timely execution. He reviewed arrangements related to crowd management, traffic regulation, intelligence gathering, and deployment of forces. Emphasis was laid on maintaining a robust security grid and safeguarding vulnerable targets.

Nalin Prabhat also instructed district heads to keep a close watch on social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation that could affect public order. The Traffic Wing was asked to put in place an effective traffic management plan to ensure uninterrupted movement of the public and protected persons.

Security arrangements along highways, link roads, railway tracks, and stations were also reviewed. The SSP Security Kashmir was directed to implement a comprehensive security plan at the main Republic Day venue, factoring in all identified threats.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of J and K Police, intelligence agencies, the Army, and central armed police forces. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to ensure peaceful and secure Republic Day celebrations across the Valley.
