
SRINAGAR: Security forces on Wednesday recovered and neutralised a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during a joint cordon and search operation in the forest areas of Rajouri district of Jammu Kashmir, officials said.
Official sources said that the recovery was made from the dense forests of Kallar in Dori Maal area falling under the jurisdiction of Thanamandi police station. The operation was launched by Army and police following reports of suspicious movement in the area.
During intensive searches of the forest terrain, the joint teams detected suspicious material which, upon examination, was confirmed to be an IED weighing approximately 3 to 4 kilograms, they said.
Officials added that the explosive device was subsequently destroyed in a controlled manner to avert any threat. Besides, some empty shells were also recovered from the site and taken into custody for further investigation.
Search operations in the area were continuing at the time of filing this report, officials said. (KNC)
