Srinagar: A team of the Food Safety Department conducted an intensive evening inspection at Lal Chowk and Residency Road in Srinagar on Sunday to check the quality of food being sold.
The inspection was led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yameen-ul-Nabi. The team inspected street vendors and food outlets operating in the area.
Officials interacted with vendors and sensitised them about basic food safety norms, hygiene standards, and legal obligations under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
“During the drive, two vendors were compounded under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act for violations detected on the spot,” said an official, adding “despite it being an off day (Sunday), the department carried out the inspection as part of its sustained enforcement and monitoring efforts.”
“The Food Safety Department remains committed to ensuring the availability of safe and quality food for consumers, and no compromise on food quality will be tolerated.”
