
SRINAGAR: At least 11 fire incidents were reported from various districts of the Kashmir region over the past 24 hours, officials of the Fire and Emergency Services Department said on Tuesday, adding that prompt action prevented any loss of life.
According to officials, fire service teams responded to incidents across Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts. A cow shed was damaged in a fire at Rawalpora Matipota in Ajas area of Bandipora, while dry grass caught fire near the Royal Spring Golf Course at Lalit Ghat in Srinagar.
In Ganderbal district, a single-storey GCI shed was affected by fire at Pehlipora in the Safapora area. Forest trees were damaged in a separate incident reported from Wazibagh in the Char-e-Sharief area of Budgam.
Anantnag district witnessed multiple incidents, including a chinar tree catching fire at Mandipora in Dooru and damage to a cow shed in the Laditahwot area. In Srinagar’s Wazirbagh locality near LD Bagh, one room of a three-storeyed residential house was affected by fire.
Another residential house was damaged in a fire at Sheikhpora in the Sallar area of Anantnag. In Pulwama’s Gujjar Basti area of Zainapora, two hay stacks were gutted. A fire involving a gas cylinder was reported from Soibugh in Budgam district, while a residential house caught fire at Kachloo in the Qaziabad area of Kupwara.
Officials said the swift and coordinated response of Fire and Emergency Services personnel ensured all incidents were brought under control in time, preventing casualties and significant property loss. No deaths were reported.
Meanwhile, Director General Fire and Emergency Services, Alok Kumar, appealed to the public to strictly adhere to fire safety norms, use electrical appliances and gas cylinders carefully, and promptly report any fire incident to the nearest fire station to minimise damage.
