SRINAGAR: A fire that broke out at HMT Shah Vilayat Colony in Srinagar during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday was swiftly brought under control, with timely action by Fire and Emergency Services preventing a major mishap, officials said.

The fire erupted in a three-storeyed residential house in Sector 8 after a short circuit in an electric blanket, officials said. Firefighting operations were immediately launched, and the blaze was contained within a short time, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

A preliminary assessment conducted prior to the cooling operation revealed that the electric blanket had developed a short circuit, leading to sparking and ignition.

The operation was carried out under the charge of Fire Incharge Mehraj-ud-Shah and supervised by Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Mir Aqib Hussain, with Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah overseeing deployment.

No loss of life or injuries was reported in the incident, officials confirmed.
