SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, paid homage to the Sahibzades, Mata Gujri Ji, and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji on the occasion of Veer Baal Diwas, highlighting their unparalleled bravery, sacrifice, and commitment.

Addressing the Vishesh Shaheedi Samagam ‘Safar-E-Shahadat’, organised by the All Jammu Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee at Gurdwara Digiana Ashram, the LG said their lives and teachings continue to inspire citizens and serve as a source of moral guidance.

“The supreme sacrifice of our Sikh Gurus inspires us to uphold national unity and integrity. It is our collective responsibility to build a prosperous and united country,” the LG said, stressing the role of Sikh traditions of devotion and valor in shaping “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”

He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, historic measures have been taken to honour Sikh heritage, including justice for 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims, FCRA approval for Sri Harmandir Sahib, the Sri Kartarpur Sahib corridor, and revitalisation of the Jallianwala Bagh memorial. These initiatives, he said, ensure that the Gurus’ message of universal brotherhood guides India’s development.

The LG also praised the Sikh community for its historic contributions to nation-building and efforts to combat social discrimination, urging citizens to honour the Gurus’ sacrifices by fostering unity and progress. He recalled the martyrdom of Baba Moti Ram Mehra and his family as an example of loyalty and human spirit.

During the event, S Ajit Singh, Chairman of the Sikh Coordination Committee, submitted a memorandum seeking the renaming of Veer Baal Diwas as “Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas.” The LG assured that the request would be forwarded to the Government of India.

The ceremony also included the felicitation of a newly married Sikh couple under the Anand Marriage Act in the Union Territory. Prominent attendees included Mahant Manjeet Singh, Narinder Singh Raina, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shri Ramesh Kumar, senior police and civil administration officials, and members of the Sikh community.

The event underscored the LG’s emphasis on preserving Sikh heritage while promoting national unity and inclusive development.
