Pampore man held with fake currency: Police

Srinagar, Dec 26: Police on Friday arrested a 27-year-old man from Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and recovered Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth Rs 86,000 from his possession, officials said.

The accused has been identified as Akeel Majeed, a resident of Kadalbal area of Pampore. He was arrested by a police team from Police Station Pampore during a routine operation, a senior police officer said.

During the search, police recovered 172 fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, amounting to Rs 86,000, from the accused, the officer added. A case under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Pampore, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the counterfeit currency and any possible links, police said.
