SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday paid tributes to veteran socialist leader and former president of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Students’ Union, Babu Markandeya Singh, recalling his contributions to public life and youth leadership.

Addressing a commemoration event in Varanasi, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted Singh’s life and work, describing him as a guiding force for young people through his determination, wisdom and commitment to public service. He said Singh’s life continues to inspire the younger generation to actively contribute to nation-building.

Sinha said Babu Markandeya Singh was known for his integrity in politics and represented a rare blend of scientific temper and deep concern for humanity. He added that Singh’s life was rooted in the principles of peace, social justice, human service and dignity.

The Lieutenant Governor described Singh as a true disciple of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, noting that Malaviya consistently stressed skill development, quality education and independent thinking as foundations for socio-economic progress and a welfare state.

He said Babu Markandeya Singh embodied these ideals throughout his life and devoted himself to the advancement of society and the nation.

Sinha also said India is moving steadily towards historic growth, guided by clear goals of sustainable development, capacity building and skill development, and equal opportunities for all, with a focus on expanding knowledge, innovation and creativity to strengthen the country’s intellectual capital.
