Jammu, Dec 21: Dense fog has been affecting several areas of Rural Jammu for the past two days, significantly reducing visibility and increasing the risk of road accidents and traffic congestion.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic Rural Jammu, has issued a traffic advisory urging commuters to exercise maximum caution while travelling.
According to the advisory, motorists have been advised to use low-beam headlights or fog lights and strictly avoid the use of high beams during foggy conditions. Drivers have also been asked to reduce speed and maintain a safe following distance of at least four to six seconds to prevent collisions.
The SSP Traffic further emphasised the importance of keeping headlights switched on, windshields clean, and using defrosters to prevent internal fogging.
Road users have been directed to follow traffic signs, lane markings, reflectors, and other cautionary signages, while maintaining lane discipline and avoiding unnecessary overtaking.
Special caution has been advised near junctions, flyovers, highway exits, and interchanges. The advisory also highlights the need to watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and slow-moving vehicles, and to use indicators well in advance while braking gently.
The public has been advised to avoid non-essential travel in case of extremely poor visibility, allow extra travel time, and keep mobile phones charged for emergencies. “For any assistance or information, commuters may contact Traffic Police Rural Jammu through official channels,” SSP Traffic said.
Traffic authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate and follow safety guidelines, reiterating that cautious driving can help save lives.
