3 arrested in alleged sacrilegious act in Doda

Ramban, Dec 18: Police in Doda have arrested three persons in connection with an alleged sacrilegious act, involving the slaughter of an animal and the transportation of beef for illegal sale.

According to Police, during the intervening night of December 17 and 18, information was received at Police Station Doda regarding the alleged slaughter of the animal and the movement of beef towards the Sersi area. Acting on the tip-off, a police team immediately swung into action.

The accused identified as Farooq Ahmed, son of Nazir Ahmed, resident of Sersi Dhalwa; Mohammad Shafi, son of Abdul Salam, resident of Verinag Kapran in Anantnag district; and Mohammad Yaseen, son of Abdul Qayoom, resident of Top Sersi, tehsil and district Doda were arrested.

Police said the trio, along with some unidentified persons, allegedly committed the act with criminal intent, which had the potential to hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community and disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the area.

A police raid was conducted at the spot, during which all three accused were arrested. The recovered beef was seized as evidence.

In this regard, FIR No 275/2025 was registered at Police Station Doda under Sections 299 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“Further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the case,” Police said, reiterating commitment to maintain communal harmony and ensure public order in the district.
