New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a chargesheet in the Pahalgam terror attack case, naming Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF), along with six terrorists and other accused, the agency said in a statement.
In a media statement, the NIA said that the comprehensive chargesheet lays bare Pakistan’s role in orchestrating the conspiracy, detailing the involvement of the accused and the evidence collected during the probe. The banned LeT/TRF has been chargesheeted as a legal entity for its role in planning, facilitating and executing the Pahalgam attack, which involved religion-based targeted killings and claimed the lives of 25 tourists and one local civilian.
According to the statement, Pakistan-based handler Sajid Jatt has been named as an accused in the 1,597-page chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court, Jammu. The chargesheet also names three Pakistani terrorists killed by Indian security forces during Operation Mahadev at Dachigam, Srinagar, in July 2025, weeks after the attack. They have been identified as Faisal Jatt alias Suleman Shah, Habeeb Tahir alias Jibran, and Hamza Afghani.
The NIA said LeT/TRF and the four aforementioned terrorists have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the Arms Act, 1959, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Penal provisions relating to waging war against India have also been invoked.
As per the statement, a meticulous scientific investigation conducted over the past nearly eight months traced the conspiracy in case RC-02/2025/NIA/JMU to Pakistan, which, the agency said, has been persistently sponsoring terrorism against India.
The statement further said that two accused, Parvaiz Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad Jothatd, arrested by the NIA on June 22, 2025, for harbouring terrorists, have also been chargesheeted. During interrogation, the two disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack and confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated with the proscribed LeT outfit.
Further investigation in the case is continuing, the statement added. (GNS)
