
SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday paid tributes to General Zorawar Singh on his Martyrdom Day, describing him as one of India’s greatest military strategists and a visionary whose leadership continues to inspire generations.
Speaking at a commemorative event in Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted General Zorawar Singh’s decisive military campaigns across Ladakh, Baltistan, Gilgit and Skardu, noting his central role in the expansion of the Dogra Empire. He said the general’s courage, purpose and commitment to larger ideals had left an enduring impact on the nation’s military and cultural history.
Calling on the youth and broader society to draw lessons from General Zorawar Singh’s life, Sinha stressed the importance of moral clarity, conviction and service to the marginalised. “Let us dedicate ourselves to changing lives, guiding and supporting youth, and building a more just and peaceful society,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor reaffirmed the Union Government’s commitment to honouring the commander’s legacy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that an advanced indigenous light tank has been named after General Zorawar Singh, and that the University of Jammu has established the General Zorawar Singh Chair to promote study of his military contributions and organisational vision.
The event was attended by MLA Vikram Randhawa; Devinder Singh Kaluria, Chairman of the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Education and Charitable Trust; trustees Riya Kaluria and Diksha Kaluria; Lt Gen RK Sharma (Retd.), President of the JK Ex-Services League; and Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma.
Major General Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (Retd.), Padma Shri Dr S.P. Varma, Col Karan Singh (Retd.), ex-servicemen and senior civil, police and Army officials were also present.
