SRINAGAR: Three major doctors’ bodies in Jammu and Kashmir have issued a joint wave of condemnation following the November 10 bomb blast near Red Fort in New Delhi, saying the medical fraternity stands firmly against violence and any attempt to misuse the profession for destructive ends.
The Medical Faculty Association (MFA) of Government Medical and Dental College Srinagar said it has expressed deep grief and solidarity with the families of those killed in the explosion, calling the attack “agonisingly painful and deeply disturbing.” It said such acts have no place in any civilised society. The Association added that reports alleging the involvement of a few medical professionals were especially troubling, terming it a desecration of the sanctity associated with the practice of medicine. It said it has reaffirmed its commitment to saving lives and serving humanity above everything else.
The Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) also condemned what it described as the tragic loss of innocent lives. The body said the medical community was deeply disturbed by the suggestion that individuals linked to the profession may have played a role in the incident. It urged authorities to ensure that anyone found guilty is brought to justice, while stating that acts of violence will never weaken the fraternity’s determination to heal, protect and serve.
The Society of Consultant Doctors (SCD) JK echoed these concerns, expressing sorrow over the deaths and terming the alleged involvement of medical personnel a grave betrayal of the ethics of healing. The organisation said it has full faith in the justice system and demanded strict legal action against anyone proven guilty. It called upon the public to remain calm, vigilant and united against forces promoting extremism.
With aligned statements from all three major bodies, the doctors’ community in Jammu and Kashmir has signalled a clear message that the profession dedicated to healing stands firmly against violence and any act that undermines peace, humanity and national unity.
