SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, also Chairman of the JK Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB), today sanctioned and released Rs 30.14 crore for direct online transfer to eligible construction workers under key welfare schemes of the Board.

The funds have been distributed to all Assistant Labour Commissioners for immediate credit into the bank accounts of registered beneficiaries. The assistance covers education support, disability aid, chronic illness assistance, support for next of kin of deceased workers, marriage aid, and meritorious awards for children of registered labourers.

Reiterating directions from the Board’s 22nd meeting held in July, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for a broader and more inclusive definition of ‘construction worker’ to ensure vulnerable and unorganised sector labourers benefit from welfare measures.

He also stressed exploring innovative policy mechanisms to expand coverage, strengthen financial security for workers, and align the Board’s functioning with national best practices in labour welfare.

Omar Abdullah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of construction workers, describing them as the backbone of infrastructural growth who deserve comprehensive and timely welfare support.
