SRINAGAR: Jailed Baramulla MP Er Rashid has commenced a two-day hunger strike at Tihar Jail No.1 in New Delhi to protest the recent Delhi blast and the increasing involvement of educated Kashmiris in violent activities.

The development was confirmed by Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi, who cited a letter from Er Rashid addressed to the Director General of Prisons. According to the letter, the hunger strike is aimed at highlighting the loss of innocent lives in the blast and cautioning Kashmiris against the participation of the region’s educated youth, including doctors, in violent acts.

Er Rashid emphasised in his letter that his protest seeks to remind Kashmiris that “we cannot afford to lose our young and educated generation” and that “violence has no place in a civilised society.”

Nabi expressed condolences to the families affected by the Delhi blast and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured, while underscoring the MP’s call for peace and restraint in the region.
