SRINAGAR: People across Jammu and Kashmir, cutting across political, social, and religious lines, have strongly condemned the deadly terror attack in New Delhi that claimed several lives and left many others injured.

A high-intensity explosion tore through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station in the Chandni Chowk area on Monday evening. The blast killed at least thirteen people, injured over twenty-four, and gutted several vehicles, triggering widespread shock and outrage across the country.

Political leaders, religious figures, business representatives, and ordinary citizens from Kashmir have denounced the attack, calling it “an assault on humanity” and demanding that those behind the heinous act be swiftly brought to justice.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief and shock over the loss of lives in the Delhi blast. “The Chief Minister has expressed deep shock over the blast in Delhi close to Red Fort, which has claimed several lives and left many injured. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the attack, saying that violence in any form was unjustifiable. “Deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic car blast in Delhi that has taken eight precious lives and injured so many others. My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones — no words can ease their pain. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured and hoping the cause of this tragedy is uncovered soon,” she said, according to the Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, in a Facebook post, said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy. “I am deeply saddened by the tragic blast in Delhi near the Red Fort that claimed innocent lives and injured many. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Prayers for everyone’s safety and the speedy recovery of those affected,” he wrote.

CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami expressed anguish over the incident, saying, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish a swift recovery to those injured.”

Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, condemning the attack, described it as “an act against the teachings of all religions.” He said, “Taking innocent lives can never be justified under any circumstance. Those behind this brutal act must be exposed and punished.”

Sheikh Ashiq, former president of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and senior leader of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), also voiced outrage, terming the blast a “barbaric act that has no place in a civilised society.”

The attack has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with users from Kashmir expressing solidarity with the victims and their families. “This is heartbreaking. No religion or ideology permits such barbarism,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). Another wrote, “Terrorism anywhere is a threat to peace everywhere. Prayers for the victims and strength to their families.”

Civil society members, trade associations, and youth groups have also urged a thorough investigation into the incident and called upon authorities to ensure that those responsible face the full force of law.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) has expressed profound shock and outrage over the horrific explosion at Chandni Chowk near Red Fort in New Delhi, which claimed 13 lives and left more than two dozen injured. In a statement, FCIK said the entire industrial fraternity of Kashmir “strongly condemns this cowardly and inhuman act of terror aimed at disturbing peace and spreading fear among citizens,” adding that violence in any form runs contrary to the values of humanity and civilised coexistence. The organisation expressed full solidarity with the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. Emphasising that peace and stability are vital for national progress, FCIK urged both the Central and State Governments to work in close coordination to ensure citizens’ safety, calling for stronger collaboration between security and intelligence agencies to prevent such tragedies. The body said it joins the nation in mourning the loss and called for unity, vigilance, and resilience against extremism and violence.
