Food Safety Department Bans ‘KK’ Atta Over Insect Contamination

SRINAGAR: The Food Safety Department in Anantnag has prohibited the sale of atta sold under the brand name KK (Batch No. A-22) following a safety inspection.

An order issued by the Assistant Commissioner read that the decision comes after a sample of the atta, manufactured by KK Roller Flour Mills, EPIP, SIDCO Industrial Complex, Bari Brahmana, Jammu, was tested at the Food Laboratory, Kashmir. The lab report (No. FSSA/K/2025-26/MR-5551 dated 17-10-2025) confirmed the presence of insects, deeming the product unsafe for consumption.

The Assistant Commissioner and Designated Officer for Food Safety, Sheikh Zameer Ahmad, stated that the sale of such unsafe food products is prohibited under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006, as consumption may pose serious health risks.

Consumers have been advised to avoid purchasing the product, while shopkeepers and distributors in Anantnag have been directed to withdraw the product from shelves immediately.

The ban will remain in effect until further orders from the Food Safety authorities. (KNC)
