Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Wednesday voiced serious concern in the Legislative Assembly over the government’s alleged indifference towards the media sector, emphasizing that the press remains a vital pillar of democracy that must not be undermined.

Sadiq expressed dismay that several local media outlets have been deprived of government advertisements for years, a situation that has crippled their operations and threatened their survival.

“It is unfortunate that many local publications have been denied advertisements for such a long time. The media serves as the fourth pillar of democracy and deserves institutional support, not neglect,” Sadiq remarked during the session.

Urging the administration to act swiftly, the JKNC legislator appealed for an equitable and transparent system for advertisement allocation. “The government must take immediate notice of this issue. The media fraternity has been grappling with advertisement-related problems for several years, and it is high time these are addressed fairly and promptly,” he said.
