SRINAGAR: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Jammu Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Thursday said that his party will raise the issues of unemployment and other key public concerns during the ongoing Assembly session.

Speaking to reporters before the commencement of the session, Sharma said that Thursday’s proceedings would not involve any legislative business, as the House is scheduled to pay tributes to those associated with the Assembly who have passed away. “Today’s session is meant to offer condolences and tributes to the departed souls who were linked with the Assembly,” he said.

The BJP leader added that unemployment, problems faced by temporary employees, and issues concerning water, electricity, roads, and corruption will be among the key matters his party plans to highlight during the session. “We will focus on issues that directly affect the common people, especially unemployment, daily wagers’ plight, and the basic amenities that continue to trouble citizens,” Sharma said.

When asked about a BJP meeting held before the session, Sharma explained that such meetings are customary to chalk out strategies for Assembly proceedings. “Before every session, BJP legislators meet to discuss the strategy for the upcoming days. We also discussed the Rajya Sabha election scheduled for tomorrow,” he noted.

Reacting to a recent comment made by the Chief Minister about him, the Opposition leader remarked that the Chief Minister should focus on his own responsibilities instead of advising the Opposition. “Now the Chief Minister wants to decide what the Opposition should do. Someone should ask him how much of his own work he gets done,” Sharma said. [KNT]
