SRINAGAR: In a series of swift and coordinated operations, Jammu Kashmir Police have solved three murder cases in the district, including a blind murder initially portrayed as a natural death, the killing of a minor boy in Sunjwan, and a gruesome murder at Simbal Camp in the Miran Sahib area. The police have also dismantled two major drug networks, arresting eight peddlers, including four women, and recovering over 500 grams of heroin worth crores of rupees in the market.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, said the recent breakthroughs underscore the force’s commitment to justice, professionalism, and public safety.
In the first case, a blind murder unearthed by Police Station Bahu Fort exposed a chilling story of domestic crime. The case, initially projected as a natural death, came to light after a complaint was lodged nearly a month later by the relatives of the deceased, identified as Simriti Sunwar. According to the SSP, investigation revealed that her husband, Tej Pal Singh, had allegedly killed her and hurriedly cremated the body to destroy evidence. Police, acting on scientific analysis and witness statements, arrested the accused within a day of registering FIR No. 286/2025 under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Bahu Fort.
In another swift operation, Police Post Bathindi solved the murder of a minor boy in Sunjwan within hours of the crime being reported. On October 10, a resident of Rahimabad, Bathindi, reported that his son, Mohammad Zubair, had been found murdered in the Sunjwan–Gaziabad area. The suspect, Mansoor Alam, also from Rahimabad, was apprehended shortly after. Police said the accused confessed to the crime during questioning, and an FIR (No. 299/2025) was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort. The SSP added that further investigation was underway to ascertain the motive and recover evidence related to the murder.
The third case, which took place in Simbal Camp area under the jurisdiction of Police Station Miran Sahib, involved the brutal killing of Narinder Singh over a debt-related dispute. The deceased was allegedly assaulted by two brothers, Tanveer Singh and Bavneet Singh, along with three of their family members. Acting on multiple leads, police arrested all five accused, including the parents and sister of the two prime suspects. FIR No. 133/2025 under Sections 109, 126(2), and 191(2) of the BNS, with murder charges added later, was registered at Police Station Miran Sahib. The accused were tracked down across Jammu and neighbouring districts in a coordinated operation supervised by senior police officials.
“The successful resolution of these cases reflects the high level of coordination, technological support, and commitment shown by our investigating teams,” SSP Joginder Singh said, commending the officers and personnel involved.
In addition to solving these murder cases, Jammu Police also busted two major drug peddling networks operating in Bahu Fort and RS Pura areas.
In the first operation, a team from Police Post Narwal, acting on reliable intelligence, detained one Vishal Kumar of Rajeev Nagar near Wave Mall and recovered 275 grams of heroin and a weighing machine from his possession. His disclosures led to the arrest of four women — Reena, Sheetal Devi, Payal, and Kajal — from the same locality. Police recovered another 68 grams of heroin, several weighing machines, and cash totalling Rs 36,540 from their possession. A case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and efforts are underway to trace the wider supply network.
In another case, a team from RS Pura Police Station apprehended three drug peddlers — Inderjeet and Vishal Kumar of Batala, Punjab, and Jagdish Raj of RS Pura — from the Chak Talab area. Police recovered 186 grams of heroin from their possession, and a case under the NDPS Act was registered.
The SSP Jammu said the recent successes are part of a sustained drive against both violent crime and narcotics trafficking in the district. He reaffirmed that Jammu Police remain fully prepared to ensure peaceful Diwali festivities and the upcoming ‘Darbar Move’ next month.
“As far as the threat perception is concerned, we have been fighting terrorism for more than three decades. The enemy was defeated in five wars but continues its efforts to foment trouble by pushing terrorists and drugs. The situation demands that we all stay alert to counter any conspiracy,” the SSP said.
He urged citizens to cooperate with the police by sharing information about their tenants, reporting suspicious objects, and helping maintain public safety.
“These cases demonstrate that Jammu Police are determined to bring every offender to justice, protect the vulnerable, and maintain peace across the district,” he added.
