Inayat Jehangir Wins Singles, Doubles Titles at Srinagar Open Tennis Championship 2025

SRINAGAR: Inayat Jehangir bagged both the singles and doubles titles in the men’s open category at the Srinagar Open Tennis Championship 2025, held at the Gindun Sports Complex here. Jehangir, who has been in exceptional form this season, retained his singles crown by defeating Mir Jameel 6-1, 6-2 in a final that lasted a little over 100 minutes.

Teaming up with Dilbagh Singh, Jehangir added the doubles title to his tally by overcoming the duo of Mir Jameel and Danish Shah. Earlier this year, Jehangir had also clinched the UT-level veterans’ doubles tennis tournament held in Jammu.

In the junior categories, Zainab Wani triumphed over Aizah Owaisi in the Girls U-10 final, while Mohammad Qais defeated Simratjit Singh to claim the Boys U-16 title.

This year’s championship witnessed over 50 matches across various categories, with around 40 players participating. Organised by the District Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association (JKLTA), the event has become a prominent fixture in Kashmir’s tennis calendar.

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Gurmit Singh, general secretary of DLTA Srinagar and an executive member of JKLTA. He expressed gratitude to Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gul and Chief Sports Officer for their support in the smooth conduct of the championship.

“We are thankful for the support extended by the Sports Council for promoting tennis in Jammu and Kashmir. We are especially appreciative of the infrastructure development currently underway at the Gindun Tennis Courts,” Singh said, urging the authorities to ensure completion of ongoing works before the onset of winter.
