SRINAGAR: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Anantnag has directed immediate deletion of a viral video of a minor, recorded during an event organised by Physics Walla in Anantnag, after the child complained that the clip had been misinterpreted and misused on social media platforms.
In a statement, the minor submitted an application before the committee stating that the circulation of the video violated her privacy and exposed her to immoral and threatening comments online.
The CWC observed that the dissemination of the video content amounts to an offence under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 and Rules 2016, besides other applicable laws. The panel further noted that such misuse of social media causes distress to children and amounts to abuse.
Accordingly, the committee has directed all social media handlers, individual account holders and other platforms to delete the said content immediately and refrain from further circulation.
The officials warned that any violation of the order would invite legal action, including imprisonment as prescribed under relevant laws.
